What Does it Feel Like to Take Ozempic, Wegovy, or Semaglutide?

Will I feel different once I am taking Ozempic, Wegovy, or semaglutide? What changes with these medications? What Does it Feel Like to Take Ozempic, Wegovy, or semaglutide? To answer this question, I will tell you about the experiences of my patients once they have been on these medications for about a year.

One of the biggest themes I hear from my patients is that once they are on Ozempic, Wegovy, or semaglutide, they noticed that they are not thinking about food all the time. Before the medication, much of their day was distracted by thoughts of food. These thoughts of food usually led to eating throughout the day. Once they have been on Ozempic, Wegovy, or semaglutide for a while, these distracting thoughts abate.

Although the constant food thoughts stop, the more intermittent food thoughts driven by hunger still continue. People taking Ozempic, Wegovy, and semaglutide still feel hungry before mealtimes. But now hunger is their main drive to eat rather than the non-hunger drives to eat, such as cravings, boredom, or stress.

Because the constant thoughts of food and eating go away, it becomes much easier to work behaviorally on good nutrition. The strategies and practices of choosing, planning, preparing, and eating nutritious food become much more attainable when the excessive food chatter quiets. I liken this to people with anxiety who are trying to work on cognitive behavioral strategies in therapy. Some people have such high levels of anxiety in their brain that they can't engage in the therapy. Once they take a medication for anxiety, the brain chatter of anxiety quiets, and they are suddenly able to practice what they are learning in therapy. People describe a very similar change with Ozempic, Wegovy, and semaglutide. The mind's food thoughts quiet to a point that they can work on nutrition behaviors with more ease.

What it feels like to be taking Ozempic, Wegovy, or semaglutide is the feeling of living life without food thoughts arising all the time. You get to think about food when you are hungry, and you get to think of the rest of your life every other moment.
